Tether takes strategic stake in Whop, to integrate USDT and USAT payments
Tether Investments has acquired a strategic stake in Whop.com, an online marketplace supporting more than 18.4 million users and facilitating roughly $3 billion in annual payouts across 144 countries.
Under the agreement, Whop will integrate Tether’s Wallet Development Kit (WDK) to process stablecoin payments, enabling creators and users to settle transactions in USDT or USAT, the recently launched “Made in America” digital dollar. The partnership connects Whop’s marketplace to Tether’s ecosystem of more than 530 million users and over $180 billion in issued digital dollars.
The funding will support Whop’s expansion into Latin America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, while also introducing AI-powered tools aimed at creating agentic income opportunities. Whop said its gross transaction volume is growing at approximately 25% month over month.
The WDK integration will also position Whop to roll out decentralized finance features such as lending and borrowing, effectively building a self-custodial digital banking layer for its community.
CEO Paolo Ardoino said the investment reflects Tether’s focus on supporting real economic activity through scalable digital dollar and wallet infrastructure, enabling faster global payments and broader financial inclusion.
The broader stablecoin market has reached a total dollar-denominated supply of $293 billion. USDT accounts for $183 billion of that total, representing a 62.4% market share. In fiscal year 2025, Tether reported over $10 billion in net profit, held $122 billion in U.S. Treasury securities, and increased total assets backing USDT to $193 billion.
Tether has also invested in LayerZero Labs, the firm behind the technology powering USDT0, as well as in Dreamcash to support USDT0-collateralized perpetual markets. Additionally, the company allocated $150 million to Gold.com as part of its strategy to anchor digital assets with physical reserves.
