Bitcoin has experienced several significant crashes throughout its history, often characterized by rapid and substantial drops in value. These events are a natural, albeit volatile, part of its journey as a relatively new and speculative asset.
One of the earliest notable crashes occurred in 2013. After reaching a peak of over $1,100 in November, Bitcoin plummeted by more than 80% in the following months, largely due to the collapse of Mt. Gox, which was then the largest Bitcoin exchange.

The infamous 2017-2018 crash followed Bitcoin's meteoric rise to nearly $20,000 in December 2017. What followed was a bear market that saw its value tumble by over 80% again, dipping below $4,000 by late 2018. This period was often referred to as the "crypto winter."

In March 2020, the global financial markets, including Bitcoin, experienced a sharp downturn due to the initial uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. Bitcoin dropped by over 50% in a single day, briefly falling below $4,000, before a significant recovery later that year.
