'Bear attack victim' was actually killed by son, Japan police say

Japanese police have said that an elderly man who they had believed was killed by a bear had in fact been stabbed to death by his son.
Fujiyuki Shindo, 51, was arrested in the northern Akita prefecture on Tuesday for allegedly murdering his 93-year-old father Fujiyoshi, local media reports.
Police sent out a bear attack warning mail after the victim's wife found him collapsed and bleeding on the floor. But it was withdrawn after investigators concluded the wounds were more consistent with knife injuries.
Bear sightings are increasingly common in northern Japan, where ageing populations and shrinking farmlands have meant the animals are expanding their habitat closer to human populations

Kremlin plays down Zelensky talks as Trump warns Putin may not want to make deal

The Kremlin has played down talk of an imminent summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky, as Donald Trump renewed his call for the two leaders to meet to discuss ending the war in Ukraine.
The push for a bilateral meeting comes after the US president met Putin in Alaska last week, and welcomed seven European leaders and Zelensky to the White House on Monday.
Trump admitted the conflict was "a tough one" to solve and conceded it was possible the Russian president was not interested in ending hostilities.
"We're going to find out about President Putin in the next couple of weeks," he said on Tuesday. "It's possible that he doesn't want to make a deal."

أفادت وزارة الخارجية الأمريكية لبي بي سي أنها ألغت أكثر من 6000 تأشيرة دراسية دولية بسبب انتهاكات للقانون الأمريكي وتجاوز مدة الإقامة.

وأضافت أن "الغالبية العظمى" من هذه الانتهاكات شملت الاعتداء، والقيادة تحت تأثير الكحول، والسطو، و"دعم الإرهاب".

وتأتي هذه الخطوة في الوقت الذي تواصل فيه إدارة ترامب حملتها على الهجرة والطلاب الدوليين.

وفي حين لم تحدد وزارة الخارجية المقصود بـ "دعم الإرهاب"، فقد استهدفت إدارة ترامب بعض الطلاب الذين تظاهروا دعماً لفلسطين، بحجة أنهم عبّروا عن سلوك معادٍ للسامية.

ستصبح ملكة الجمال نادين أيوب أول امرأة تمثل الشعب الفلسطيني في مسابقة ملكة جمال الكون.

صرحت منظمة ملكة جمال الكون (MUO) في بيان أرسلته إلى CNN يوم الأحد بأنها "يسرها تأكيد" مشاركة أيوب في مسابقة ملكة جمال الكون 2025، المقرر إقامتها في نوفمبر.

جاء في البيان: "ترحب منظمة ملكة جمال الكون بكل فخر بالمشاركين من جميع أنحاء العالم، احتفالاً بالتنوع والتبادل الثقافي وتمكين المرأة".

وأضاف البيان: "تجسد السيدة أيوب، وهي مدافعة بارعة وعارضة أزياء من فلسطين، الصمود والعزيمة اللتين تميزان منصتنا".

ستنضم أيوب إلى متسابقات من أكثر من 130 دولة ومنطقة أخرى في نهائيات ملكة جمال الكون الرابعة والسبعين، التي ستُعقد في 21 نوفمبر في بانكوك، تايلاند.

More than 200 missing in flood-hit district in Pakistan, official says

More than 200 people remain missing in one district of north-west Pakistan as a result of devastating monsoon flooding and landslides, an official has said.
Flash floods have killed more than 300 people in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir in recent days, with most of the deaths recorded in the mountainous Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
A local official in the worst-affected Buner district told the BBC that at least 209 people were still missing there, but it is feared that number could rise.
Rescue teams have buried eight unidentified bodies as there were no family members found alive to claim them, said Jehangir Khan, spokesman for the deputy commissioner office of Buner.

Hurricane Erin has weakened to a category three hurricane as it moves towards the Bahamian Archipelago in the Caribbean.
The storm became a rare category five cyclone on Saturday night, with winds up to 160mph (260km/h), but meteorologists expect it to fluctuate in intensity as it develops over the next few days.
Despite this, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) says Erin is growing in size, with tropical-storm-strength winds extending 205 miles from its centre. Storm-related hazards, including flash flooding and landslides, are expected in the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
The first hurricane the 2025 Atlantic season, it is not forecast to make landfall over the mainland US.
