1. BTT → $BTTC Redenomination & “Old BTT” Burn
BitTorrent (BTT) undertook a redenomination plan, converting "old BTT" (sometimes called BTTOLD) to the new BTTC token. As part of that, a large portion of the old supply was burned.
Example: ~52.9% of 990 billion BTTOLD was burned during that conversion process.
2. Burn Amounts Claimed Currently
Several reports (including from reputable aggregators) say BitTorrent has burned ~58–60.4% of the original BTT supply.
The numbers often cited: ~580–600 billion tokens destroyed, out of ~990 billion.
3. What “Burned” Means in These Contexts
“Burned” means the tokens are sent to an address (or otherwise made inaccessible) so they can’t be circulated or used.
In this case, much of the burn was part of the redenomination process — tokens that either weren’t swapped, or were intentionally retired during the transition from old BTT to the new format.
