What we commonly refer to as artificial intelligence is actually a cooperative stack of various components. It is the seamless integration of these different layers that ultimately produces the systems we recognize as intelligent.
Looking at the architecture of Bittensor, it is constructed from exactly 128 distinct sub-networks. You can think of every individual subnet as a specialized, market-driven production facility. These hubs organize miners to generate specific digital commodities, while ensuring that the highest quality results receive the best rewards.
The sheer variety of these commodities is quite extensive. They encompass compute, distributed training, fine-tuning, inference, data, labels, synthetic data, evaluations, ranking, RL environments, agents, vision, audio, storage, privacy tooling, VPNs, search, forecasting, and prediction markets.
Over the course of this weekend, developers gathering at @frontiertower for the @FundingCommons hackathon will be hard at work. These builders are focused on crafting brand new subnets designed to expand the sovereign AI infra stack.
We are thrilled to announce the BITTENSOR ON-SITE HACKATHON taking place in San Francisco. Hosted at @frontiertower located at 995 Market St, this event features an on-site subnet sprint scheduled from Mar 11 at 9:00 AM through Mar 15 at 1:00 PM. Participants are invited to construct a sovereign AI layer operating as a Bittensor subnet. Applications are currently being accepted.
Your subnet build will be evaluated based on six key metrics. Judges will analyze market demand to determine if the concept is worth building, define the miner task to clarify the work involved, and examine validator scoring to understand how quality is measured. Additionally, the panel will assess incentive design to verify that economics drive improvements, check economic viability for self-sustainability, and confirm technical feasibility to ensure the project can be successfully built and launched.
The top 3 teams will earn significant rewards, including a launch pathway for post-event support. Prize packages feature up to 1000 TAO in discretionary funding plus an investor pitch provided by @UnsupervisedCap. @CrucibleLabs is offering 50 TAO toward mainnet registration, while @basilic_ai is contributing $5,000 in GPU compute credits. A total cash bounty of $2000 will be split among the winners in amounts of $1000, $600, and $400.
The panel of judges includes @bitmind, @DistStateAndMe, @shibshib89, and @6329. We are grateful for the support of our partners: @FundingCommons, @protocollabs, @frontiertower, and @RedwoodNorthTAO.
Here is the latest weekly overview for the @opentensor Foundation Validaτor. Our operations are currently validating on 101/128 subnets. We maintain Rank #3 with a dominance rating of 7.42%. We appreciate the support of 10'940 nominators who have contributed to a delegated stake of 580K+ TAO. These efforts directly fund the maintenance and development of the Bittensor Blockchain as we continue building the AI infrastructure layer. #Bittensor $TAO
We have officially concluded Round 1, meaning that the window for entries is now closed. The response has been fantastic, with 150+ subnet submissions received. At this moment, the evaluation process is underway to determine the standout projects. Only the top 7 will be selected to move forward to the Hackathon in Round 2. This crucial selection is being handled by our panel of judges, which includes @macrozack @KibibyteMe @pepeleplutus @Old_Samster and @snowman888
Entries are officially closed as we wrap up Round 1. We are pleased to report a total of 150+ subnet submissions. The judging process is currently active to determine which top 7 candidates will advance to the Round 2 Hackathon. We have successfully navigated through 24 days of DDoS activity. Throughout this period, the TEEs remained stable, and the network is harder as a result. Be sure to check out the full episode featuring SN64 and @chutes_ai 🪂 on youtube and spotify.
Join us as we explore the decentralization of Bittensor and address the critical question of who maintains authority over network upgrades. This episode details the significant transition from centrally managed environments to fully self-operating systems. We delve into the mechanics of the cryptographically selected Triumvirate, the specific veto powers granted to validators and subnets, and the migration of chain nodes to independent operators utilizing NPoS.

Here is the latest weekly progress report for the @opentensor Foundation Validaτor. We are currently performing validation duties across 104 of the 128 available subnets. Our position stands at rank #3, representing a network dominance of 7.39%. We are grateful to our 10'950 nominators who have entrusted us with a delegated stake totaling 580K TAO. Resources from our validator are utilized to finance the ongoing creation and upkeep of the Bittensor Blockchain as we continue establishing the essential AI infrastructure layer. #Bittensor $TAO

Top-tier builders establish subnets based on objective functions that are mathematically rigorous. These environments operate as specific production systems characterized by measurable results and performance scoring by validators. They also maintain aligned incentives through Proof of useful work. When you build on Bittensor, your role is to create the mechanism, allowing the network to handle the scaling.
Accessing frontier AI shouldn't require the massive budgets typical of Silicon Valley, and that is exactly what Bittensor aims to solve for Africa. On 25 Feb, we are bringing this mission to #Nairobi by hosting the Bittensor Subnet Ideathon during the Sankalp Africa Summit.
Our agenda features a practical workshop designed to translate actual problems into viable subnet ideas. You will also hear from special guests, including Gareth representing #SN85 (@vidaio_) and Sam from #SN3, #SN39 & #SN81 (@covenant_ai).
We invite you to Think it, Pitch it, and Build it with us.
The session takes place at the Sarit Expo Centre in Pavilion 2 from 11:00–15:00 EAT.

On 25 Feb, we are bringing Bittensor to Kenya. Join us for the Bittensor Subnet Ideathon, which will be held during the Sankalp Africa Summit in #Nairobi. This event includes a guided workshop aimed at turning actual problems into ideas suitable for subnets. We are also pleased to host Gareth from #SN85 (@vidaio_) and Sam from #SN3 (@covenant_ai) as our special guests.
The core mission of Bittensor is to ensure that Africa does not need Silicon Valley-sized budgets to gain access to frontier AI. We invite you to think it, pitch it, and build it.
The session takes place from 11:00–15:00 EAT at Pavilion 2, Sarit Expo Centre.

Eventually, every decentralized network arrives at the same defining juncture: the moment it ceases to be managed by others and begins to function independently.
This episode explores that transition, covering the specifics of on-chain governance and decentralized chain nodes. We also examine upgrades ratified by the community, the Triumvirate proposal system, and the allocation of voting power across validators and subnets.
Here are the latest statistics and highlights for the @opentensor Foundation Validaτor. We are currently active across 104/128 subnets, securing the #3 rank with a total network dominance of 7.58%. Our delegated stake has grown to 570K+ TAO, thanks to the trust of 11,005 nominators.
By choosing us, you help support the continued maintenance and development of the Bittensor Blockchain, as we remain committed to constructing the AI infrastructure layer.
We are officially stepping into the newest era for Bittensor. This evolution involves moving governance mechanisms on-chain and ensuring the decentralization of chain nodes. Furthermore, the Opentensor foundation is actively relinquishing control. Collectively, these changes mark our transformation from a standard network into a dynamic organism.
