The Stages of Mitosis
Mitosis is divided into several phases, including:
Interphase:
Before mitosis, the cell prepares by replicating its DNA in the S phase and creating new organelles.
Prophase:
Chromosomes condense and become visible, and the nuclear envelope breaks down.
Prometaphase:
The spindle fibers attach to the chromosomes at their centromeres.
Metaphase:
The chromosomes align at the "metaphase plate," an imaginary plane in the middle of the cell.
Anaphase:
Sister chromatids separate and are pulled to opposite ends of the cell by the shortening spindle microtubules.
Telophase:
Two new nuclei form around the separated chromosomes, and the chromosomes begin to de-condense.
Cytokinesis:
The cytoplasm divides, completing the formation of two distinct daughter cells, each with a complete and identical set of chromosomes.

It replaces old, lost, or damaged cells, allowing for tissue regeneration and healing.
Asexual Reproduction:
