Midnight Network is a Layer-1 privacy focused blockchain designed to enable decentralized applications that can process sensitive information without exposing it publicly on the blockchain.
Mainly considered as a partner chain of the Cardano ecosystem, it oerates as it's own but is designed to integrate with Cardano's infrastructure, security model and broader ecosystem of assets and developers.
At it's core lies what many creators call programmable privacy, which means privacy is not simply turned on or off but can be selectively applied within applications.
Midnight addresses the privacy challenge by integrating advanced cryptographic method known as Zero-Knowledge Proofs, which allow one party to prove that a statement is true without revealing the underlying information used to prove it which is the case for ZK-SNARKs.
The system operates under the native token NIGHT which acts as a primary asset of the network and plays several roles including staking, governance participation, and network security.
