What is the shutdown price of Bitcoin?
$BTC 78000 USD is a painful line of industry-weighted average, rather than a timely shutdown price for everyone. How is this price calculated?
This number is not a wild guess; it is based on the Bitcoin halving mechanism, miner efficiency ratios, and hardcore mathematical calculations of electricity costs.
In April 2024, Bitcoin completed its fourth halving, with the block reward decreasing from 6.25 BTC to 3.125 BTC, which means that the cost of mining has physically doubled in an instant.
Currently, mainstream mining machines like the Antminer S19 XP have an efficiency ratio of about 21.5 GHT, while the new generation S21 is about 17.5 GHT.
By the end of 2024, the total network hash rate is expected to be around 600 to 700 EHS, with a trend of annual growth. Assuming the hash rate grows to 900 EHS by 2026, electricity costs are assumed to be calculated at an industrial rate of 5 to 6 cents per kWh based on the global weighted average, and due to AI competing for electricity, it is difficult for electricity prices to drop back to 4 cents.
