The Royal Government of Bhutan has transferred nearly 1,333 Bitcoin (BTC) in the past week, raising questions about its plans for the cryptocurrency. This comes as Bitcoin’s price hovers around $112,000, facing pressure from global economic uncertainty.

Latest Transfer: 419.5 BTC
On Wednesday, Bhutan moved 419.5 BTC, worth about $47.23 million, from a known government wallet to a new one. This follows a bigger transfer of 913 BTC last week.
In total, Bhutan has moved over $150 million worth of Bitcoin in just seven days.

Remaining Bitcoin Holdings
Despite these transfers, Bhutan’s main crypto wallet still holds around 9,232 BTC, valued at over $1 billion at current prices — making it one of the few governments with such large Bitcoin reserves.
Where Does the Bitcoin Come From?
Bhutan’s Bitcoin comes mainly from government-backed mining operations run by Druk Holding & Investments, the country’s state-owned investment company.
Earlier this year, crypto analytics firm Arkham revealed just how much Bitcoin Bhutan owns, confirming its unique status as a sovereign Bitcoin investor — not through confiscation or legal actions, but through direct mining and investment.
Economic Uncertainty Adds to the Mystery
Bhutan’s recent moves come at a time when global markets are uncertain. The U.S.
Federal Reserve (Fed) recently signaled it may delay cutting interest rates due to stubborn inflation. This cautious stance has hurt so-called risk assets, including stocks and cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.
