Upbit detected “irregular withdrawals” from a hot wallet tied to the #SOLANA network. The stolen amount was estimated at around $36M.
The breach involved a mix of Solana based assets not just $SOL but also stablecoins & alts on Solana eg. $USDC , memes, DeFi tokens.
The withdrawals were unauthorized & sent to “unknown external wallets.”
Immediately after detecting the breach, Upbit suspended all deposits & withdrawals for Solana network assets to prevent further unauthorized outflows.
The exchange transferred remaining assets to cold storage & began a full security audit.
Authorities are suspecting the involvement of Lazarus Group- a hacking collective linked to North Korea.
