🇺🇳 UN Chief: Gaza Famine a “Failure of Humanity”

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called the confirmed famine in Gaza City and surrounding areas a “man-made disaster” after a UN-backed food security body raised the region’s status to Phase 5 — the highest, most severe level.

1️⃣ The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) reports over 500,000 people in Gaza are facing “catastrophic conditions” marked by starvation, destitution, and death.

2️⃣ Israel rejected the findings, calling the report an “outright lie,” and denied that famine exists in the territory.

3️⃣ The UN insists Israel continues restricting aid deliveries — a claim Israel disputes.

4️⃣ These denials contradict the accounts of 100+ humanitarian organizations, UN bodies, witnesses, and allies such as the UK.

5️⃣ The IPC warns that without an “immediate, large-scale response,” famine-related deaths will escalate further.

6️⃣ It also predicts famine will spread to Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis between mid-August and late September.
