America often abandons its friends in difficult situations. A living example: the U.S. is now removing its THAAD and Patriot missile defense systems from South Korea and sending them to the Middle East.
Remember, in 2017, South Korea installed the U.S. THAAD system despite severely damaging its relations with China. China saw this defense system as a threat to its security, because the U.S. could monitor Chinese territory through it. China believed that the real purpose of installing THAAD in South Korea was not just protection against North Korea, but also to keep an eye on China.
After South Korea’s move, China reacted strongly:
Banned Chinese tourist groups to South Korea, causing over $15 billion in losses.
Imposed restrictions on K-Pop and South Korean entertainment in China.
Closed Lotte Group stores in China because the group provided land for THAAD.
Forced Hyundai and KIA to shut factories in China, reducing their market share.
All this happened just because South Korea wanted to comply with the U.S. request to install its defense systems.
But now, the U.S. is moving the same defense systems from South Korea to the Middle East. In other words, the system South Korea paid such a heavy price for is being removed. This clearly shows that America’s priority is not its allies, but solely the protection of Israel.
