On March 9, Trump held his first press conference since the war began, at Trump National Doral in Miami. His message was simple — but within hours, he undermined it himself.

In a CBS News phone interview Monday afternoon, Trump said "I think the war is very complete, pretty much," arguing that Iran's military had been largely destroyed. "If you look, they have nothing left. There's nothing left in a military sense."
At the press conference, he said "It's going to be ended soon. And if it starts up again, they'll be hit even harder."Pressed on whether "soon" means within a week, Trump replied: "No, but I think soon."
He said the military effort is "ahead of our initial timeline by a lot" and touted the destruction of more than 50 Iranian naval ships and Iran's air force and anti-aircraft systems .
🔴 Then, minutes later, speaking to House Republicans at the same resort, Trump said: "We've already won in many ways, but we haven't won enough. We go forward more determined than ever to achieve ultimate victory that will end this long-running danger once and for all."

When a reporter pointed out the contradiction between his "nearly over" statements and Defense Secretary Hegseth saying the war is just beginning, Trump replied: "It's the beginning of building a new country."
On Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, Trump said "I was disappointed to see their choice" but stopped short of threatening him directly — saying only "I don't want to say that" when asked if he'd placed a target on Khamenei's back. (Binance)
📊 Three contradictory signals in a single afternoon — nearly over, not won enough, and the beginning of something new.For traders, this is not reassuring. Markets cannot price an endpoint they cannot define. Until Trump's statements align, $100+ oil and equity volatility stay the baseline.
