Recent attacks on oil facilities in Iran have reportedly created the first major disagreement between the United States and Israel.
According to a report by the American news website Axios, U.S. officials have questioned Israel about how it carried out the strikes targeting Iran’s oil infrastructure.
The report states that Israeli airstrikes hit around 30 oil depots and energy storage facilities in different areas of Tehran and surrounding regions. American officials reportedly said Washington did not expect such large-scale attacks on Iran’s oil depots, and that Israel did not fully inform the United States beforehand about the scale and intensity of the strikes.
U.S. officials are also concerned about the global economic impact of the attacks. Strikes on Iran’s oil installations could increase volatility in global oil prices, affecting international energy markets.
Another concern raised in the report is political: targeting key energy facilities could strengthen domestic support for Iran’s government, as such attacks might rally public sentiment inside the country.
