Most discussions around robotics revolve around capability. Faster hardware, smarter sensors, more advanced AI models. But the more time I spend thinking about how robots will operate in real environments, the more I keep returning to a quieter question.
What happens when a robot gets something wrong?
As robots move from controlled labs into real economic systems, mistakes are no longer theoretical. A delivery robot could damage a high-value package. A warehouse robot might mishandle inventory. An industrial machine could misinterpret instructions and interrupt production.
In each of these situations, the issue is not just technical failure. It is responsibility.
Today that responsibility usually falls somewhere between the manufacturer, the operator, and the software developer. But as robots become more autonomous and begin interacting with multiple systems, tracing that responsibility becomes increasingly complex.
A machine might act based on sensor data, remote commands, machine learning models, and automated coordination with other systems. When something goes wrong, identifying the source of the decision becomes difficult.
This is where the concept behind Fabric Protocol started making more sense to me.
