Bensent Triggers a Plunge in Market
Before the recent plunge in Bitcoin, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bensent hinted that the U.S. government would not rescue cryptocurrencies. During a heated debate in the House Financial Services Committee on Wednesday, Bensent was asked whether the Treasury Department had the authority to purchase Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies. Bensent stated, "I do not have the authority to do that, and as the chair of the Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC), I do not have that authority either."
