šŗšøšØ āDonāt panic,ā says Trumpāwhile everything says panic.
A new poll shows most Americans now view Donald Trumpās first year back in office as a failure. Whatās more telling? Even voters without a college degreeāone of his core support basesāare starting to turn away.
So whatās the response from the White House?
A plea.
Trump publicly urged Americans not to āpanic,ā doubling down in a piece titled āDonāt Panic. Weāre Winning ā and Weāre Not Slowing Down.ā The message: ignore the āfake news,ā donāt ātake the bait,ā and pleaseākeep believing.
But reality is stubborn.
The job market is the bleakest since the pandemic. Grocery prices keep climbing, despite repeated promises that costs would fall. And instead of answers, Americans are being told their own eyes are lying.
George Orwell nailed this decades ago:
āThe Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.ā
Itās hard to imagine anything more Orwellian than a president begging people not to panicāwhile insisting theyāre winning.
And yes, before anyone asks: the widely circulated 1995 InStyle photo of Trump posing on a bed with his daughter Ivanka is real. Professionally shot. Publicly published. Part of the record.
So hereās the question that wonāt go away:
at what point does ādonāt panicā just become another way of saying ādonāt questionā?
