862,000 Jobs Erased Biggest Revision Since 2009

The BLS annual revision shows the U.S. created far fewer jobs in 2025 than first reported. Total gains were cut to just 181,000 for the year, down sharply from 1.46 million in 2024 averaging only 15,000 jobs per month.

The 862,000 adjustment is the largest since 2009. Federal employment fell to its lowest level in 60 years, and nearly every month was revised lower, continuing a three-year pattern of overstated job growth.

While January posted +130,000 jobs and 4.3% unemployment, the broader trend points to a much weaker labor market.

If this persists, recession risks rise and pressure on the Fed to cut rates or add liquidity will increase.
