EU Proposes TOTAL BAN on Russian Crypto Transactions
The European Commission just dropped its most aggressive crypto sanctions ever (20th Package).
What's Banned:
→ ALL crypto transactions tied to Russia
→ Russia's Digital Ruble (CBDC) in EU
→ EU businesses dealing with Russian crypto providers
→ Third-country banks helping Russia (Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Laos)
Why Now?
Russia's ruble-pegged stablecoin A7A5 processed over $100B in under a year, bridging rubles to $USDT and bypassing existing sanctions.
Key Points:
Requires all 27 EU member states' approval
3 countries already raised concerns
Target deadline: Feb 24 (invasion anniversary)
Will It Work?
History says when centralized platforms get banned, activity shifts to P2P & DeFi. Full enforcement in a decentralized world remains the biggest challenge.
