Introducing Caldera — a protocol that allows projects to launch their own custom Layer 2 (L2) chains, also known as application-specific rollups, tailored to their specific needs. By using the OP Stack (the modular architecture of Optimism), Caldera enables developers to launch rollups that inherit the security of Ethereum while maintaining full control over block space, fee models, consensus mechanisms, and governance.
This is particularly important for high-traffic applications such as on-chain games, real-time trading platforms, and social dApps. These applications require low latency and predictable performance — both of which are very difficult to achieve on shared L2s like Arbitrum, Optimism, or zkSync, where resources are constrained and competition is fierce.
