Trump announces $500 billion AI infrastructure project 'Stargate'
Stargate will be led by OpenAI, SoftBank and Oracle, with Microsoft and Nvidia initially serving as key technology partners.
US President Donald Trump has announced a $500 billion investment in private-sector-led AI infrastructure called 'Stargate', which aims to build AI data centers across the country.
Trump said at a press conference on January 21 that the primary funders of Stargate are OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, SoftBank and Oracle, and hailed the project as creating "over 100,000 American jobs."
SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son said $100 billion will be deployed immediately.
AI investment firm MGX is also participating, while Microsoft, Nvidia and Arm are also listed as key partners for the initial technology, according to a statement from OpenAI, which noted that the remaining $400 billion will be distributed over the next four years.
“What we want to do is we want to keep [AI innovation] in this country,” Trump said, flanked by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Oracle CTO Larry Ellison and SoftBank’s Son.
