Reflecting on Hack the East 2026: Supporting the Next Wave of Hong Kong AI Innovation

Between Feb 28 and Mar 1, 2026, the #OAX Foundation was delighted to act as a sponsor for Hack the East. This event marked #HongKong as the host of its premier student-organized, city-wide #hackathon dedicated to artificial intelligence.

The gathering attracted approximately 350 gifted individuals, including international guests who traveled just to participate. These innovators formed over 60 teams to construct functional and significant #AI tools within a strict 24-hour window. The environment was stripped of corporate obstacles and endless presentations, focusing instead on pure ingenuity and cooperative effort under time constraints.

What we observed went beyond a standard technical competition. It highlighted a distinct group of #builders who are inclusive and focused on solutions, ready to apply AI and #decentralized concepts to real-world social problems.

We applaud every participant for their hard work, with special recognition going to Team Dyson of the East. They captured the OAX Foundation Award for their project, StudyRot. This remarkable tool converts static PDFs and course outlines into compelling, social-media-style narratives similar to the formats found on X or TikTok. Great job!
