On September 4, 2024, Polygon began the transition from MATIC to POL.
Currently, 99% of the MATIC tokens have transitioned successfully into POL, and the remaining 1% will migrate in the coming days. This upgrade increases the utility of the native token within Polygon's ecosystem.
Technical Details
Native Gas Token: POL is now the native gas token for all transactions on the Polygon PoS network.
Staking and Governance: POL is used for staking, governance, and as collateral in the Polygon ecosystem.
Token Supply: Total supply of POL is limited to 10 billion tokens with about 977.5 million in supply.
Migration Process
@Polygon PoS Users: If you had MATIC in the Polygon PoS network, your MATIC tokens were converted to POL automatically at 1 to 1. No action needed but you might need to change your wallet token symbol to POL.
Ethereum Users: For MATIC tokens on Ethereum, use the Polygon Portal to migrate to POL. Alternatively, decentralized exchanges such as 1inch or CowSwap can also make the migration.
