Vitalik Buterin: AI agents may expose user behavior, and encryption privacy is indispensable.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin stated on X that, against the backdrop of increasingly widespread AI agents, cryptographic privacy technologies are critical for protecting users’ API call patterns and behavioral data. Even when using local AI agents, if external services can observe all search queries or API call logs, they can still infer the activities users are engaged in.

Privacy protection must be considered across the full stack, with the local AI agent layer being especially crucial. Vitalik analogized this to healthspan: just as addressing multiple detrimental factors one by one yields cumulative benefits, so too do measures that reduce data leakage risks produce similar compounding effects.

A preliminary solution at present is to route requests through a mixnet to obscure the origin of access; however, service providers—facing potential DoS attacks—may require anti-abuse mechanisms and pay-per-call models. In practice, such payment methods often rely on credit cards or privacy-inadequate stablecoin systems.
