Ripple (RLUSD) Officially Expands to Ethereum's Layer 2 Ecosystem via Wormhole
Big news from Ripple! Jack McDonald (SVP of Stablecoins, Ripple) has just confirmed the expansion of RLUSD to four major Layer 2 (L2) networks: Optimism, Base, Ink, and Unichain via the Wormhole protocol.
This isn't just "adding coins" to new networks; there's a big message behind it:
🔹 1. New Standards of Compliance (Regulated Stablecoin)
RLUSD is issued by a Trust regulated by the NYDFS. In a crypto world full of legal uncertainty, the presence of a "regulated" stablecoin on an L2 network is a major magnet for institutional funds.
🔹 2. Multichain Dominance
Ripple is no longer just focused on the XRPL. By entering Base (Coinbase) and Unichain (Uniswap), Ripple is aiming for the largest liquidity in the DeFi world. This demonstrates Ripple's aggressive strategy to become a major player across the blockchain ecosystem.
🔹 3. "The Convergence"
As Jack McDonald put it, this is the intersection of Regulatory Oversight and On-chain Efficiency. There is no longer a dichotomy between "legal compliance" and "fast technology." The two are now unified.
