Jamie Dimon says JPMorgan Chase will not join the list of major companies funding Donald Trump's $300 million White House ballroom project.

He explained that the bank must avoid any action that could look like it is trying to buy influence, especially because it works closely with governments around the world.

Dimon said the company has to think about how future administrations, including the Department of Justice, might interpret political donations. He noted that JPMorgan has internal policies that limit these contributions and emphasized the need to avoid any perception of seeking favors.

His comments came after the Trump administration released a list of corporate donors supporting the construction of the new ballroom, which will sit on the site of the demolished East Wing. Companies like Amazon, Apple, Google, Microsoft and Palantir were among those contributing to the project.

Trump has said the ballroom is being funded by hundreds of millions in private donations and even suggested using additional funds for new monuments in Washington, D.C.

The demolition of the East Wing has sparked criticism from historians, lawmakers and former White House occupants.
Reports also suggest Melania Trump privately opposed tearing it down.

The administration expects the ballroom to be completed in 2029, before the end of Trump's second term.
